Throughout history the Jews have remained small in number, and as the Holy Scriptures declare, “And only a small number will remain among the nations where God shall lead you.” (Deuteronomy 4:27).
Nearly 2500 years ago there were around 10 million Jews in the world. And as at today there are nearly 14 million Jews scattered throughout the nations. In comparison, nearly 2000 years ago there were nearly 30 million Chinese, and as at today this number has grown up to 14 billion, and yet they have always been at the forefront of Science, Technology, Creativity and Military power.
And throughout these 2500 years of exile from their Homeland, something astonishing happened…, the Jews never let their dream of returning to their God given ancient Homeland disappear…., they never lost hope, they never stopped believing, that one day God will once again gather them to their ancient Homeland – Israel.
Throughout history the Jews are the ONLY people who have survived, retained their identity and returned not only once, but twice from exile to their God given ancient homeland. For God Almighty said, “I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land.” (Ezekiel 34:13).
In Ezekiel 34:13, God Almighty speaking through the prophet Ezekiel said that He would gather the people of Israel who are scattered throughout the world and bring them back to their own land. After many centuries of dispersion, hundreds of thousands of Jews returned to their ancient homeland beginning in the late 1800s. But, millions more returned after Israel declared independence in 1948. In other words, millions of exiles returned to their ancient homeland which was now truly their own land in the sense that it was now a sovereign Jewish State.
God Almighty speaking through the Jewish prophet Zechariah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel said, “At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home.” (Zephaniah 3:20). “Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the land I had sworn with uplifted hand to give to your fathers.” (Ezekiel 20:42). “I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered and I will give you back the land of Israel again. But I will bring Israel back to their own pasture, and they will graze on Carmel and Bashan” (Jeremiah 50:19).
